Once upon a time, there was a kid called Samuel. Samuel’s mother asked Samuel’s oldest brother to chop firewood in the forest. The brother went into the forest. He met a little old man. The old man asked for food and a drink. But the brother didn’t give him any food and drink. He began chopping firewood and suddenly he slipped his ax and hurt his arm. He couldn’t work any more. So, he went home.
Next, his mother sent the second older brother to chop firewood. His second brother also met the same little old man in the forest. The little old man again asked for food and drink. But the second brother didn’t give him any food and drink. He was as selfish as the first brother. But when he began chopping firewood, he suddenly slipped his ax and hurt his toe. He couldn’t work any more. So, he went home.
Samuel told his parents that he wanted to chop firewood. But when Samuel went into the forest, he saw the same little old man. He asked for food and a drink. But this time, Samuel gave the little old man food and drink. The man felt Samuel kind, so he gave Samuel a reward. The little old man told Samuel to chop the tree down. To his surprise, there was a golden goose inside the tree. He wanted to tell everybody about the golden goose. Samuel went to show his sisters first. The oldest sister wanted to pull one of the golden feathers out. But her hand got stuck on the feather. When the two sisters tried to pull her out, they got stuck too. Later, the minister told the sisters not to run after the boy. So, the minister tried to pull the sisters away. But he was stuck to the sisters too. His wife wanted to help pull the minister out of the sisters. When the wife touched the minister, the wife was stuck. The wife called for help. The two farmers tried to help the wife. But when the farmers touched the wife, they were also stuck.
Then, Samuel took the golden goose to the king. The king told Samuel that whoever made the princess laugh could be his wife. But the king didn’t want to give the princess to Samuel as a wife yet. The king made a list of conditions for Samuel. He said to bring a man that could drink cellarful of cider and could eat a whole mountain of bread. Samuel thought of the little old man. The little old man was still hungry. So, Samuel brought the little old man to the king. The little old man drank all of the cider and ate all of the bread. Now, the king asked Samuel to find a ship that could sail on the land as well as the sea. Soon, Samuel found it. So they were married.
The story teaches us to share things with the others. Also, we should not be selfish.
